Sony Says NO to Cheaper PS3 Consoles

  • Microsoft has been kind enough to bestow an (almost) certain price cut to the Xbox 360 here in the near future... but will the Sony PS3 follow in the footsteps of it's shiny, bright cousin? The answer, sadly, is no. Reports have surfaced saying that frankly, Sony doesn't care that everyone and their brother not being able to afford the PS3. Sony CFO Nobuyuki Oneda anounced that they were more concerned with profitability, not reducing prices.

Well that is certainly a buzz kill for most people with really shallow pockets with nothing to play their Blu Ray disc movies on. (Which makes me wonder how they got their paws on Blu Ray movies anyway.) However, profit-seeking Sony isn't hurt much by the lack of price cut. The PS3 has seen some real momentum buildling. Since the PS3 released titles that people will actually want to play and there are high quality Blu Ray capabilities, the PS3 is finally on the map. The real question is, will the Xbox 360 accelerate far ahead of it in sales because of the new, lower, price?
