Second Life Affair Leads to IRL Divorce

  • Second Life

Second Life leads to online marriage, then real marriage, then online infidelity, to online divorce, to real divorce. It seems to me that everyone would have been better off if they just would have skipped out on Second Life and taken up a day job.

So here is the tragically hilarious story; Amy Taylor and David Pollard were a happily married British couple and complete Second Life addicts. When I say addicts, I mean to they were to the point where they had an online wedding as well as a real one.

To the misfortune of the couple but to my glee, Amy's avatar (let's call her Amy) caught David's avatar (David) in a less-than-flattering position with an online prostitute in Second Life. This led to the real Amy and David to file for digital-divorce, so that their avatars could be separated. Although the digital-affair was grounds for digital-divorce, the real life couple kept their marriage intact and as strange as ever.

Later on down the road, Second Life David proved his loyalty to Amy through a "honeytrap" test which was ordered for him. In said test, a sexy Private Eye in Second Life attempted to seduce David. Although he was successful in avoiding an online PI, he was later caught having some sort of "affectionate" time with another avatar. In response (to the game flirting), the real Amy filed for a very real divorce from real David.

The fact that Amy was pissed enough to file for divorce over an interaction in a game makes real women seem like completely nutty tramps. ... pretty accurate representation Amy. Remind me not to tell my wife that I play World of Warcraft and have been laying some wicked hot blood elves.
