Scrabulous Attacked by Hasbro |
![]() |
Hasbro has been becoming more aggressive towards the creators of Scrabulous, a popular Facebook application that is a blatant rip-off of the game Scrabble. In the beginning, Hasbro sent a notice to Facebook that requested them to remove the copycat game from the free application service. Even though this official notice was sent in, Facebook kept the game up and the co-creator of Scrabulous hoped that some agreement could be reached in order to keep the game up.

Being a large company, Hasbro did what all large companies do when asked to compromise- they filed a suit. Refusing to move an inch, Hasbro sued the creators of the application Jayant Agarwalla, Rajat Argarwalla and their company RJ Softwares. The Scrabble creators also sent a copyright infringement notice to Facebook. Hasbro cannot really be blamed for suing for copyright infringement, "Scrabble" is even in the name Scrabulous.
One big motivation for Scrabulous's destruction is that on July 7 Hasbro announced their plan to take the official version of Scrabble to Facebook, with the support of the National Scrabble Association.
People are pretty serious about their word games, apparently.
