Rock Band Wii and PS2 Outsold Everything

  • Users like simplicity. People should know this by now but it is exemplified by the Wii and PlayStation 2 versions of Rock Band outsold Rock Band and Rock Band 2 on the other systems last year. !!! The versions of Rock Band for the Wii and PS2 were extremely simple; key features were left out, there was no online play/DLC, no character creation and the graphics were shoddy (aka- it was Guitar Hero-ish).

According to data gathered and analyzed by the NPD group, the Wii version of Rock Band was the franchise's best-selling SKU last year- selling over a million units with the PS2 version right behind. The success of the games go as far as Rock Band Wii and PS2 being the 29th and 31st best-selling games of the year, respectively.

The Xbox 360 Rock Band sold just under 800,000 units, Rock Band 2 on Xbox 360 sold just under 600,000 units and Rock Band 2 on Wii (released at the VERY end of the year) sold over 150,000 units.

It looks like the Nintendo crowd responded to having the lame-ass Wii Music and wanted something more.
