Seeing that the Prince of Persia games were huge hits, the Prince hitting the movie screen is kind of a big deal. Bad news for fanatics - it looks like it will be pushed back from 2009 to 2010. Instead of being released a week before Transformers 2, it will be released a week after Shrek the Fourth. Why is Disney pushing back a film that gamers can't wait to see?
The apparent bad news may be a blessing in disguise. The reason for the delay is that Disney wants to put plenty of finishing touches on the Prince of Persia film and do not want to rush the process. The addition of some postproduction special effects is going to take some time - so be grateful that you will be seeing the Prince in his splendor.
Now who is going to be in the Prince of Persia movie you ask? Jake Gyllenhaal, Gemma Arterton, Ben Kingsley, and Alfred Molina are all reported to be in the cast. The presence of Jake Gyllenhaal is reason enough to get your girlfriend to go see it with you, not to mention he is a badass.
If you aren't familiar with the games, here is a short run-down of what the movie will be about. Gyllenhaal will play Dastan, the main character in the Prince of Persia games. Dastan's goal is protect the ownership of the Sands of Time from an evil nobleman. The princess Tamina, who is going to be played by Arterton, is also going to take part in protecting the Sands of Time.
