Pre-Owned Titles Dominating Stores |
![]() |
Walking into your local game store and buying a brand new copy of a recently released title shouldn't be a problem - but there has been a trend making it one. The trend is that game stores have been stocking more pre-owned titles than actual new copies of a game. Customers will purchase a game, play it to their heart's content, and then return it for credit towards a newer game.
Retailers will only carry new copies of games from the past few months; finding new copies games that have been out for a while is a challenge because of the sheer number of pre-owned titles in the store.
David Braben, the founder of Frontier Developments, has been vocal in desiring retailers to change their sales practices of pre-owned games.
"This is essentially rental, and it's not tolerated by other industries... Why can we not introduce special 'for rental' copies?"
Hopefully the overwhelming amount of pre-owned titles can be managed more efficiently, instead of taking up store space for new titles.
