Left 4 Dead Demo Hates Legacy

I'm not sure why game developers like excluding classes of gamers from playing their "OMFG awesome!" games, but they keep insisting on doing it. If I was a lawyer or had any skill with the law at all, I would attempt to say something witty regarding discrimination, but I'm falling short. So I'll resort to... f*ck you Valve.

The Left 4 Dead demo was released last week for those eager enough to pre-order it, but for the rest of the world, today was the release date. After grumbling about not having a Gold subscription to Xbox Live and needing a Gold to download, I finally got my sticky paws onto the demo.

My first instinct was to go into the control options and change the stick layout to Legacy since I am in the retarded 15% of gamers who use it. After perusing the menus for three seconds I realize something was wrong. There was a normal stick layout and then the Southpaw Counterintuitive layout; where was Legacy?

In an effort to infuriate a small percentage of the gaming world, Valve chose to toss out the option to play with an alternative controller layout of Legacy. Without real rhyme or reason, this one layout was excluded. There would be no logical explanation as to why Valve would choose to exclude it in the demo and include it in the full version of the game, so it looks like some gamers will either have to suffer through the game feeling lost and scared... or not play it at all.

Aside from the stick problems, the demo was gory and induced a panic inside me that I haven't felt before... but still! Quit hatin' on me, Valve.
